Andy Burnham pledges ‘circuit-breaker' for Britain in first speech as prime minister
ANDY Burnham today vowed to deliver a “circuit breaker for Britain” – but said the blueprint for his 10-year vision will not be unveiled until later this year. In a break with tradition, the new Prime Minister delivered his first speech outside No10 without the customary lectern, speaking directly to the cameras after returning from Buckingham Palace. He admitted the public were “fed up with politics” and conceded politicians had “not been good enough”. Mr Burnham promised families some cost-of-living relief “starting tomorrow”, saying he would also explain how the measures would be paid for. But he also revealed that his wider ambitions for the country would not be set out until later this year, when he publishes a 10-year plan for Britain.
